Gilgit, October 3: Law enforcing agencies today arrested an alleged terrorist in a daring operation conducted by the GB Police and other law enforcing agencies.
The arrested person, identified as Waqas Ahmed, alias Tiger, is, allegedly, involved in several cases of violence in the Gilgit city and its peripheries, including incidents of firing in Baseen and the road-side bomb blast in which a van had been targeted in Minawar area. He is also wanted for murder, sources informed.
A press release by the CM Secretariat’s Media Cell has quoted the Chief Minister as hailing the police and CID for making the high-value arrest.
According to reports, Waqas Ahmed had been identified by the Interior Ministry as a person capable of carrying out large scale terrorist activities in the Gilgit-Baltistan region.
The police have also recovered money, a gun and bullets from his possession.
It is good that he has been arrested. But this arrest will have value only if it can be found out who is behind him and to neutralise those elements. Otherwise such arrests will have no meaning.
