New Governor of Gilgit-Baltistan to be appointed after Sharif’s return from USA

Islamabad: Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to gets its new governor after the return of Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif from the United States of America.

According to credible sources, Khyber-Pakhunkhawa will also get a new governor along with Gilgit-Baltistan.

The current governor of Gilgit-Baltisan, Syed Pir Karam Ali Shah, who is a PPP stalwart has lost support from the center after the departure of President Zardari.

Under the constitution, the governors of provinces are appointed by the President of the Islamic Republic, but for all practical reasons Mian Nawaz Sharif is in a position to dictate the current President, Mamnoon Hussain, over such appointments. The role of the President will be ceremonial and symbolic.
