Gilgit, September 25: The Tourist Ministry of the Gilgit-Baltistan has, finally, approved arrangements for the much trumpeted Rama Festival. The mega cultural event, aiming to attract international and national tourists, will be held at a much smaller scale in the picturesque Rama Valley of Astore District, Gilgit-Baltistan.

An official press release has stated that the festival has been renamed as “Rama Polo Festival” and only polo matches will be played to “express solidarity with people affected by floods”. The tournament will reportedly be held before the upcoming Eid.

The short period of time available for marketing of the mega event is likely to result in less interest at the national and international level.

It is pertinent to note that the GB Culture Ministry, headed by Sadia Danish, has not been able to organize any major cultural event this year. The Silk Route Festival was cancelled last month citing security situation and the political turmoil in the country.

The inaction, ill-planning and cancellation of events is putting a question mark on the performance of the ministry.
