[Interview] Meet Dr. Alamgeer, PhD in Pharmacology, hailing from Shikiyote village of Gilgit

Dr. Alamgeer has recently completed his PhD in an important field of study. He is one of the handful PhDs from the Gilgit-Baltistan region. Pamir Times arranged an interview with Dr. Alamgeer. Enjoy the 

Kindly introduce yourself to the readers.

My name is Alamgeer and I belong to Shikiyote Village of District Gilgit. I completed my early education from High School Sharote and did my matriculation from High School Nor. 1, Gilgit. I enjoy playing football, reading newspapers and watching political talkshows.

Tell us more about your education. Which college did you attend? Which subject did you study? Why did you choose your field of education?

I did my FSC from Government Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah College Hyderabad, Sindh, I was nominated form GB Education Directorate to study pharmacy at Punjab University, from where I completed my bachelors degree. From there, I went to the Bahauddin Zakriya University (BZU) in pursuit of my M.Phil degree. Later, I started teaching at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sargodha.

In 2012, I applied for an got HEC scholarship for studying pharmacy at the doctorate level. I also joined the Research Laboratory of Strasbourg France and completed my research. On 30th of September this year, I successfully defended by PhD thesis. Alhamdulillah, I am the first PhD doctor in medical sciences from my area, particularly in the subject of Pharmacology.  

You have completed your PhD. Can you tell us about your field of specialization or research?

My area of specialization is Cardiovascular Pharmacology. I have studied the beneficial impact of three medicinal plants found in Gilgit-Baltistan  of Gilgit-Valtistan on blood pressure in human beings. 

Why is your field of education important for our region, i.e. Gilgit-Baltistan?

As I told that I have worked on beneficial effects of three medicinal plants on blood pressure so I have first time explored and proved scientifically their effects after animal studies. So this will provide a base to utilize the medicinal plats a good response as after water reservoir and tourism and minirals the medicinal flora of this area has much importance in all around the world.

What are the future prospects in your field?

I want to develop a centre of excellence for higher studies typically I want to develop a quality research centre where peoples come from other countries for research 

How has your life been so far? Do you consider yourself a successful person so far?

Yes  I have had very tough time once as I belong to very poor family even all of education burden was on the shoulders of my elder brother ILYAS AHAMD  I personally feel what I am is due to blessing o f Almighty Allah, My parents prayers my brother support and my heard working

What advice would you give to students/youth who want to pursue your field of education?

My advise is to work hard with dedication and faith on Allah

What do you like to do in your leisure time?

In free time I use to watch political talk shows and study newspapers and when found time I use to go for sports

Who is your favorite leader? Why?

The greatest leader was MUHAMMAD (PBUH). In politics, the greatest leaders of Pakistan was Quaid Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and after him was Zulfiqar Ali Bhutt. Currently, I personally feel Imran khan is the best person as a leader

Who has inspired you the most in your life?

Quaid Azam, Dr AQ KHAN and IMRAN KHAN inspired me in my life. As a scientist, I want to salute the efforts of Dr Ataaurahman for his contribution in establishment of Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Do you have a message for our readers?

I want to request all readers to work hard, irrespetive of their profession or field of study. One more thing, no matter how much poor you may be, if you have decided well, u can do anything in this world.
