With reporting by Abdul Rehman Bukhari

Gilgit, February 11: The Gilgit-Baltistan Bar Council has approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan to demand resolution of the constitutional limbo in the strategically important region. They have demanded a verdict on the region’s constitutional position, which remains undefined since 1947, the year Pakistan came into being.

According to the Bar’s Vice Chairman, Advocate Shahbaz, the writ petition has been filed through renowned lawyers Aasma Jahangir and Dr. Basit.

While details of the petition remain unknown, Advocate Shahbaz has said that the Bar Council has demanded either provisional provincial status for Gilgit-Baltistan or provision of complete constitutional rights.
