Gilgit district administration downplays pro-Daesh graffiti, investigation underway
Gilgit: Pro-Daesh and Baghdadi graffiti appeared a couple of days back in a locality of Gilgit city. The graffiti, ‘welcoming Daesh to Gilgit’, caused panic, pushing the district administration officials to try cleaning the walls.
Deputy Commissioner of Gilgit has been quoted in some regional newspapers as saying that similar graffiti had appeared in the past in some parts of Gilgit city. However, he has said that investigators had found that some ‘miscreants’ wanted to spread panic in the city.
He has been quoted as saying that there’s no chance of Daesh presence in the city. “There might be a few sympathizers. We are investigating it”, he has said.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against unidentified people for painting the pro-Daesh graffiti in the city, and there are reports that police and other law enforcing agencies are actively pursuing suspects.
