Governor calls for peaceful settlement of border dispute between Diamer and Kohistan
Gilgit: Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Mir Ghazanfar Ali Khan called for peaceful settlement of border dispute between Diamer and Kohistan. He said while talking to a delegation of Chilas called him in Gilgit.
The Governor told the delegation that efforts of the provincial governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan are continued for amicable solution of dispute.
Tensions have flared up again between residents of the Thore and Harban valleys of Diamer and Kohistan, neighboring districts, over an eight kilometer patch of land claimed by both. A couple of years ago several lives were lost when the two engaged in an armed clash.
Today, the leaders of Thore Valley addressed a press conference in Gilgit, demanding action against the residents of Harba who, they said, are allegedly identifying and threatening residents of Thor while traveling on the Karakoram Highway. The leaders of Thor said that they will accept a settlement of the dispute under a commission headed by the Pakistan Army. They said that the decision of a one-member commission formed earlier is not acceptable to them.
