Time for Decisive Action Against Militants in Diamer
By Karim Khan Saka
Himalaya is home to some of world’s most fascinating mountains, where in Nepal stands the highest titanic pyramid “Mount Everest” while on the tail of Himalaya, in Pakistan, stands the world famous Killer Mountain “ Nanga Parbat (8125m). Diamar is rich in natural resources. It has lush green forests and paradisaical valleys like Fairy Meadows, Darail and Tangir.
In the southeast of Diamer lies the Province of KPK formerly known as NWFP. Diamer has its border with Jamu & Kashmir via Neelum valley. It also borders with Ghizer Valley, Asotre and Gilgit. Chilas is the administrative capital of Diamer and Babusar Pass gives alternative road access to the travelers via Naran and Kaghan valley to Islamabad.
The whole country is in a state of shock since the terrorists attacked a dozen of girl’s schools in the area of Diamer. The burning down of school is as if burning down of the future of the area. Although the Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have launched a police operation against the unidentified attackers and some suspected militants have also been arrested but the operation should not be clogged.
The dreadful series of attacks by the enemy of Pakistan and the enemy of Gilgit-Balitistan seems primarily to create hurdles on the way to CPEC and secondly to weaken the movement of Dam Constructions on the Indus. Respected Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo motu action and we do hope that the culprits will be arrested and punished.
If we recall the Nanga Parbat Massacre that happened in June 2013, where some 16 militant terrorists had killed people at the base camp, has a resemblance with the recent school attacks.
It is quite obvious that the area of Diamer has a vast border with FATA, and most probably when the military operation Zarb-e-azb took place there may be some of the terrorists found a safe haven in Diamer, Darail & Tangir Valleys.
The Massacre of Nanga Parbat in 2013 and the recent attacks on the schools have proven the presence of Talibans or like-minded terrorists in Diamer that is why the people of Gilgilt-Baltistan would request the Army Chief to launch a complete military operation in Diamer and that will essentially be the protection of CPEC. So time has come for the army to clean the tail of Himalaya up for once and all.
Peaceful Gilgit-Baltistan means successful CPEC projects and prosperous Pakistan!
Long Live Pakistan!
