Assembly approves resolution demanding cessation of NAB, FIA operations in ‘disputed Gilgit-Baltistan’

GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly on Thursday approved a resolution demanding cessation of all activities of federal bodies, like FIA and NAB, in the Gilgit-Baltistan region.

The resolution was presented by PPP’s MLA Javed Hussain and co-signed by Leader of Opposition MLA Capt. (r) Shafi.

The resolution maintains that since the Supreme Court of Pakistan has declared Gilgit-Baltistan a disputed territory, there is no justification for the activities of federal bodies like FIA and NAB in the region. Through the resolution the legislator demanded that the services of NAB and FIA be returned to the federal government.

The legislators, speaking on the resolution, said that federal bodies cannot work in Azad Kashmir because of its disputed status. They said that just like AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan is also disputed. Therefore, FIA and NAB should stop their activities in the Gilgit-Baltistan region.

The legislators, supporting the resolution, said that Gilgit-Baltistan should have its own bodies to ensure accountability.

The resolution was approved through majority vote, with some treasury bench members opposing it. Other members from the treasury bench voted for the resolution.
