PPP govt implementing its manifesto to provide facilities to people: Rehman Malik
SKARDU, Jul 16 (APP): Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik said on Friday that Pakistan Peoples Party government is implementing its manifesto to provide facilities to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan region.He was addressing a public meeting after the inauguration of Machine Readable Passport Office and a separate office of NADRA for females.He said that Skardu Airport would be transformed in to an international airport.
The minister said under a Memorandum of Understanding signed with China during the recent visit of President Asif Ali Zardari, the Gilgit-Skardu Road would be made two-way to facilitate the people of this important part of the country.
The two-way road facility would help promote, trade, tourism, mineral and investment sectors in Gilgit-Baltistan areas.
He announced to appoint immigration and custom officials for Skardu. He said that police force would also be increased in the region.
He said that Prime Minister’s announcements made during his visit to this area are being implemented in letter and spirit.
Rehman Malik said that country is confronting the challenges of war on terrorism and “we must collectively and individually work to eliminate this menace.”
He appreciated the peaceful environment prevails in Gilgit-Baltistan region.
He stressed upon the people to be careful of anti-state elements. He urged the masses to remain united to foil the nefarious designs of the enemy.
Later, he briefed the local press about the overall situation of the country including Gilgit-Baltistan.
Earlier, Syed Mehdi Shah, Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan received the minister on arrival. A smart contingent of police presented the guard of honor.
Mehdi Shah thanked the Interior Minister and PPP-government for solving the problems of the people of Baltistan.
He lauded the efforts of the minister for the establishment of a Passport Office and a separate NADRA office for the females.
He asked for increasing Police Force for Karakuram International University (KKIU) Campus, besides establishment of a new district in Baltistan Division.
