Gilgit, August 25: Shia Ulema Council, a forum of the Shiite Scholars, organized a seminar today at Serena Hotel, Gilgit. The conference was attended by a large number of dignitaries including GB Governor Syed Pir Karam Ali Shah, Speaker Wazir Baig, Deputy Speaker Jamil Ahmed MLA Razi Udin Rizvi and Commander FCNA Maj. General Ikramul Haq.
The seminar was organized to commemorate the week of revelation of the Holy Quran. The week is celebrated every year from 23-29 Ramzan, the Muslim month of fasting.
Top religious scholars and social leaders of the three major sects of Islam living in GB attended the seminar.
Speaking at the occasion Pir Karam Ali Shah said that the earlier generations of the GB region were united as Muslims and they fought the war of independence together, without giving any importance to their lingual, regional of sectarian identities. He urged the Ulema to unite the people under the flag of Islam and Pakistan.
Speaker Wazir Baig also emphasized the need for revival of the time when the people of Pakistan were united for a common cause. He said that by upholding merit and justice the society can be made a hub of peace and prosperity.
Maj. General Ikramul Haq, FCNA Commander, said that the Pakistani society is unfortunately divided on the basis of regionalism and sectarianism. He congratulated the Shia Ulema Council for arranging the conference in difficult times. He also urged the the participants 
to forge unity and work for the stability and prosperity of Pakistan.
Vice President of JUI (GB), Maulana Saeed Muhammad, President of Shia Ulema Council Sheikh Mirza Ali and renowned Ismaili Scholar, Aetmadi Fida Ali Aisar, also addressed the gathering.
The speakers said that if Muslims want to come out of their current state and progress in worldly and religious matters, they shall return to the path of Quran.
The speakers also highlighted the fundamental commonality between different sects, based on their faith in Allah Almighty, the holy prophet (PBUH) and the last divine book, Al-Quran.

Truly a great initiative by Shia Ulema Council in the Holy Month of Ramazan. This will go a long way in bringing together the religious scholars and all Muslim communities; so they could find commonalities and appreciate, respect and celebrate diversity.
