Eemergency response in disasters training concluded in Passu
Hunza, March 5: A Two-day training workshop on Emergency Response in Disasters concluded in Passu, Gojal. The training was organized by WWF-Pakistan, in collaboration with UNDP Pakistan’s Capacity Building for Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainable Recovery Project; GLOF in Himalayas. Around 60 participants, including schoolteachers, students, volunteers, Boy scouts and Girl Guides from Ghulkin, Hussaini and Passu villages participated in the workshop.
During the training experts trained the participants in First Aid and Rope Management skills in order to enable them to handle emergencies in disaster situations to improve disaster resilience in climate change hazard prone communities. Practical demonstrations were also part of the trainings. Women also actively participated in the field based demonstrations.
At the end of the training course certificates and Emergency Response Kits were distributed among the participants and the Village Emergency Response Teams (VERT) of Ghulkin, Hussaini and Passu. Rahim Khan, President Ismaili Council for Gulmit and Mir Alam, Magistrate Tehsil Gojal were also present in the closing ceremony. In their speeches, the guests and participants appreciated this effort in order to cope with GLOF related disaster risks in Gojal, Hunza.
WWF-Pakistan has initiated an awareness raising and capacity building program on Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) in collaboration with UNDP- Crisis Prevention & Recovery Unit, DEPECHO and NDMA, in Gojal, Hunza. The purpose of the campaign is to improve disaster resilience of the climate change hazard prone communities of Ghulkin, Hussaini and Passu in Gojal, Hunza.
