“Beyond Heights”: Documentary about mountaineering icon Samina Baig launched
Islamabad: “Beyond Heights” is a documentary film about Samina Baig, the 22 years old mountaineer who became the first Pakistani woman to reach the summit of the Everest, the world’s highest mountain. The documentary film was launched today at a ceremony held at the Serena Hotel.
Supported by an Adventure Diplomacy Group (ADG) – comprising Embassies of USA, Russia, Indonesia, Nepal and the Serena Hotels, the documentary has been produced as a tribute to Samina Baig, who also shares with her brother Mirza Ali the honor of climbing the highest peaks on all seven continents of the world.
The screening of the documentary was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life, including the diplomatic missions, media, business and the civil society.
Speaking at the occasion,US Ambassador Oslon termed Samina’s mountaineering feat and her advocacy campaigns as a source of inspiration.
Mirza Ali, who is Samina’s brother and an excellent mountaineer himself, explained the shooting of the film and the duo’s mountaineering efforts. He also said that the youth and women of Pakistan have great potentials and given the right opportunities they can excel in all fields.
Earlier, in his welcome address Nepal’s ambassador Bharat Raj Paudyal said that Samina and Mirza have been able to succeed in the mountaineering field through commitment and perseverance.
The documentary has been filmed by Mirza Ali, while the direction and cinematography has been made by Jawad Sharif. The documentary is a joint production of Bipolar Films and Karakorum Expeditions.
