Dr. Asad Rehman’s story: From Yasin to Canada

Dr. Asad Rehman is from Sandi village of Tehsil Yasin, District Ghazer. He is from the generation when there were not enough opportunities for schooling. After grade 5 from DJ primary school, he had to walk around 10 KM a day to attend High school. Once he passed grade 8th, from high school yasin he had to move to Gilgit because of unavailability of science teacher in the local government high school.

Those days it used to take 12 hours of hard, jeep, journey from Yasin to Gilgit. But like many other kids, Asad was struggling hard to fulfill his dream. He lived in Shah Karim Hostel Gilgit while attending High School No 1, Gilgit. After passing grade 10th, like many other students those days, he had to move to Karachi for FSc level studies. He lived with a group of students from Gilgit in various places in Karachi to attend college. He got admission in king Edward medical college Lahore. After his MBBS , Dr, Asad got an opportunity in AKU Hospital for further training in pediatrics. He got his FCPS from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. After speciality training Dr. Asad tried to join govt sector in Gilgit Baltistan. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, he went abroad for further studies and sub specialization.

He got his Diploma in child health from Glasgow, and fellowship in Neonatal Medicine from McMaster University, Canada.

At present Dr. Asad is working in Sultan Qaboos university Muscat Oman as a consultant neonatologist. He is involved in teaching , clinical care of the sick children and medical research.   1. Well done Dr Asad, Now it is high time you should come back to serve your people. This land has played pivotal role in your reaching to this height. Living a lavish life and serving foreigners is of no use to GB.

  2. well done, However its disappointing that GB does not have a job for him and also since because of GB assigned quota , he was able to get into medical college. so he deserves all the praise and is also expected to devote some time to the health of GB, as all of us should in our areas.
