ETI, P&D join hands to construct 17.7km ‘farm to market’ roads in Ghanche district of Gilgit-Baltistan
SKARDU: Regional Coordination Unit Baltistan of ETI-GB signed MoUs with three communities in Ganche District to Construct 15.75KMs of Farm to Market Roads.
Three agreements were signed between rural farming communities and Regional Coordination Unit Baltistan of the Economic Transformation Initiative Programme, Planning and Development Department, Government of Gilgit Baltistan today at RCU-BLN office to construct farm to market roads in villages Siksa, Kanday and Khoro Balghar of Ganche District.
Through a total length of 15.75kms (Siksa 4.02, Kanday 4.6 and Khoro Balghar 7.13) farm to market roads, around 1500 acres of cultivated area will be connected with the main valley roads. A ceremoney of MoU signing held at Regional Coordination Unit Baltistan. Communities were represented by their scheme management teams while from ETI, Regional Program Coordinator Barkat Ali signed the agreements.
Under the agreement, community will be responsible to construct roads as per the approved design and cost within the given timelines under technical supervision of ETI. This intervention will benefit over 2000 households in transporting agriculture produce from their farms to the market and will reduce their work burden and save time thus enabling them to increase their agriculture income.
Construction will be completed within one year and in estimated cost of 45.35million PKR. It is note that ETI is a project of Government of Gilgit-Baltistan cofunded by IFAD. Under this programme 400kms of farm to market roads will be constructed to provide critical road linkage for the existing and newly developed production areas to valley and main roads improving road densities in GB which are currently lowest in the country.
