Gilgit: Curfew lifted, cellular networks restored

Gilgit, April 28: The 25-days long curfew imposed in Gilgit city has been lifted completely . Cellular networks were also restored, enabling the residents of Hunza – Nagar, Gilgit and Diamer to connect with their near and dear ones.

The decisions were taken today a high level meeting held in the federal capital today. The meeting was briefed by representatives of security agencies.  GB Chief Minister, Syed Media Shah, was also present at the meeting. Federal interior minister, Rehman Malik, while talking to the media said that many of the terrorists behind the violence in Kohistan, Gilgit and Chilas have been been arrested. He also said that that innocent people will be set free.

The lifting of night-curfew has brought relief to the people of Gilgit city who were under siege since the April 3 incidents of terrorism in Gilgit and Chilas.

Contingents of Pakistan Army, however, will remain posted in Gilgit city to control the situation.

  1. Please encourage people of gilgit to solve the problem of a new airport at gilgit or elsewhere in the district gilgit. This is long outstanding issue of gilgit which need attention of public and administration of GB.
