Army deployed in Chilas, PM calls urgent meeting to settle compensation issue

Islamabad, February 20: The situation in Chilas remained tense as all markets were closed and traffic on the Karakuram Highway remained suspended. Protest demonstration were organized in support of the people of Diamir across Gilgit – Baltistan. In Gilgit city the protesters termed firing on the innocent people as inhumane. They demanded justice for the people of Diamir.

In the meanwhile prime minister Gilani has asked KANA minister Wattoo to convene a meeting for settling the compensation issue once and for all. Taking serious notice of the firing incident Gilani has already directed a judicial probe into the matter.

Sibtain Ahmed has been made the new deputy commissioner of Diamir district, while Hajat Mir has been transfered to head the police force, as SP.
