by Kamila Hyat

But even while crime rates soar in most parts of the country, there are places still in existence where violence and crime is almost unknown. The mountainous region of Hunza, tucked away in the north of Pakistan, is one such zone. “It is a beautiful place not just because of the snow-capped peaks and the apricot blossoms, but because the people too are so serene and so content,” said Shumaila Hassan, who holidays in Hunza almost each summer.

  2. I have reead somewhere that people of Hunza are the most beautiful as they were descendents of Alexanders army which settled here permanently due to the beauty of place.I wish one can visit it easily from any part of globe especially India!!!

    1. In reply to second comment: The people of Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan are long-long descendants ago and they have no any connection with Alexanders army. The reason behind less crime rate in the whole valley is due to the teachings of His Highness the Aga Khan, 49th Hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslims. In his sermons, the followers are stressed to keep a balance between, faith and worldly matters. He directs his followers to make bridges between the other communities, especially between the main branches of Islam (Sunnis, Shias and Ismailis). In Hunza valley, 95% inhabitants are Ismailis, 4% are Shias and only one percent are Sunnis. The second most important thing is the people of Hunza are highly educated (in some villages 100% literacy rate). So the people of Hunza have no spare time to even think towards a crime. Some people who are illiterate, are doing bad evil deeds (drug usage, theft and fruad etc.). But such acts in the eyes of civllised people of Hunza are seen as shameful act.
