Submerged parts of Gulmit and Shishkat are slowly reemerging from the dammed Hunza River after water inflow decreased as a result of dropping temperature in the upstream valley.

The trees have withered and the land is wet while remaining walls of the houses have mud painted all over them.

The local people, although distressed, are hopeful about the future because they expect the government to restart work on draining of the dammed river, as promised and budgeted.
