Victims of fatal road accident laid to rest in Gilgit

GILGIT: Five people died and five others were injured after a bus carrying a wedding procession comprising family and guests veered off the road and plunged into a ravine in the Goru area near Gilgit on Sunday.

The bridegroom was among those killed in the accident. Four people died on the spot, while one of those injured passed away on the way to the hospital.

According to police, the wedding procession was heading to Gilgit from Hunza when the vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the ravine. Authorities said the road was under construction.

Rescue workers started relief efforts immediately after getting reports of the incident but efforts were hindered due to the darkness.
