Legal awareness Program for Human Right (LAPH) is a strong platform to wipe out GBVs, says Director Planning Commission, Punjab

CHITRAL, December 26 : A one day training workshop on “Organizational Strengthening   and Advocacy” was held here for members of Human Rights Monitoring Committees (HRMC) of District Chitral. The program was organized by the Trocaire funded Legal Awareness Program for Human Rights (LAPH).

Mr. Niaz Ali Shah Chairman LAPH briefed the members about one year progress of the organization, as well as its future plans. He said that LAPH is working on five themes  for awareness raising through seminars, workshops, training and , media campaign, free legal aid   and rehabilitation.  Mr. Shah further said that the LAPH is also providing free legal assistance to poor, helpless and marginalized community at their free legal aid centers functioning in Booni, Drosh and Chitral.

Mr. Ajaz Ahmad, Resource Person of the Workshop, gave detailed presentation on dealing and  documenting of GBV cases by the HRMCs and advocacy tool for the HRMCs. Ms Asia Dawood, M&E officer LAPH also took a session on SWOT analysis on HRMCs. The participants were also given group work to raise GBVs issues and to map future approach.

The training workshop was also attended by Mr. Shahid Bajwa, Director Planning Commission, Gujranwala, Punjab, as he was in Visit to chitral in order to distribute relief goods for the Kalasha People through HRMC Bumburate. Mr. Shahid supposed that HRMCs are good grass root level institution to eradicate gender based violence and can play valuable role in the development of the area. He appreciated the efforts and said that LAPH have good and strong platform in shape of HRMCs for working on women rights in chitral.  Chairman LAPH on behalf of his Organization thanked Mr. Shahid Bajwa for attending the workshop and his support to HRMC Bomburate.

The workshop was also attended by Dr. Salma Hussain, BOD, LAPH, Ms. Naseem Akhtar, BOD LAPH, Mr. Irfan, Coordinator LAPH, Mr. Zaffar, Finance Officer LAPH and Ms Amina, Social Organizer LAPH Chitral.
