Ashura will be observed across Gilgit – Baltistan tomorrow

Gilgit, December 5: Youm-e-Ashura will be observed in Gilgit-Baltistan with religious zeal and solemnity tomorrow.

The main Ashura procession in Gilgit, the capital of GB region, will come out from the main Imamia Masjid in Gilgit in the morning. The procession will pass through its traditional routes and culminate at the same point in the evening.

Processions will also be taken out in Hunza – Nagar, Skardu, Ghangche and Astore districts, along with other areas where Shias have a sizeable population.

Gilgit-Baltistan government has taken comprehensive security measures, including aerial surveillance, random checking of vehicles, and deployment of thousands of policemen, personnel of rangers and GB Scouts in all parts of the region to ensure safety of the mourners.

Gilgit-Baltistan‚ Governor Pir Syed Karam Ali Shah and Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah in their Ashura messages have paid glowing tributes to Hazrat Hussain and his companions.

The Governor said that the Karbala gives us the lesson of tolerance and sacrifice for a noble cause. He also emphasized the need for shunning sectarianism and hatreds and forge unity among our ranks.

Chief Minister in his message said that the great sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) will be remembered till the end of this world.

He appealed the people to extent their fullest support with the government for maintenance of law and order and not allow any body to disturb peace in the area.

Speakers and mourners will pay tributes to the sacrifices made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Holy Prophet, Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH), and the son of Hazrat Ali (AS), the first Imam of Shia Muslims, during the battle of Karabala, where he was martyred by the army of Yazeed, along with his family members and companions.

The day has a historical significance in Islam because the Holy Prophet’s family, Ahl-e-Bait (People of the house), are kept in high regard by all Muslims.
