Kohistan accident: 21 bodies shifted to Gilgit, funeral prayer tomorrow

Gilgit: A Gilgit bound coaster, bearing number PWO 737, carrying around 25 security officials and some civilians has fallen in a ravine in the Sumar Nala area of Kohistan district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa province, killing at least 21 people on the spot. Five injured soldiers and  the bodies of 21 martyrs were shifted to Gilgit today in Army helicopters.

Collective funeral prayer of the armymen will be offered tomorrow morning at the helipad and the bodies will afterwards be dispatched to the soldiers’ native villages for burial.

According to details, 12 of the martyrs belong to different parts of Ghizer district, while 3 each belong to Gilgit and Hunza-Nagar district. The three remaining martyrs belong to Skardu, Ghangche and Diamer district, respectively.

According to military sources the soldiers belonged to the NLI Regiment of Pakistan Army and they were returning to their basis after vacations. ISPR has released names of the deceased, shared here for public information.

Two drivers, one identified as Aman, have also passed away as a result of the accident.

    its really hurts. He was one of the great personality of Hunza.

We are living in place which is Heaven on the Earth, but at the same time local people faces many troubles while travelling on the KKH (one of insecure route) due to Terrorist mindset and also Improper transportation facilitation. There is no standard SOP/quality services by the local Transporters leading to great losses of our talents. The service providers don’t pay attention to minimize such kind of mishaps (majority of accidents were due to negligence of Drivers and or overloading).
    the earlier reason was due to extra work load by their owners with very limited salary.

May Allah rest all the departed souls of our beloved country defenders in eternal peace and give courage to all bereaved families to bear this great loss.This tragic accident also recalled the Giyari sector accident as well. Our great soldiers and officers are always in front line to defend our country and maintaining peace and tranquillity in the home land. All nations have proud of our force who are abdicate above all prejudices that has worsen the society.It is expected with Sr. Officers of Pak force to ensure safety travel of our these defenders through pre cautionary measures like ensuring vehicle fitness, not allowing to travel together on long routes, special instructions for drivers to avoid high speed driving or arranging official or recommended transportation etc. Any how this accident will be recorded a unforgettable moment in GB history.
