Chaudhary Berjees Tahir appointed minister for Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs

Islamabad: Twenty eight (28) member federal cabinet took oath today here in Islamabad.

Important ministries were kept by party stalwarts Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan (Interior Minister), Khuwaja Asif, Saad Rafique, Ahsan Iqbal, Pervez Rasheed and Murtaza Jatoi, among others.

Chaudhary Berjees Tahir was appointed the Federal Minister for Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs. He is a lawyer by education and has been involved in politics for a long time. He has been elected to the assembly undefeated since 1990.

He was born on 20 April 1949, in Sangla Hill Tehsil of District Nankana Sahib, Punjab.

  1. Quite illogic…. A minister upon a Governor and a Chief Minister… GB is considered as disputed area. Hence, all powers should be with the GB Legislation Assembly. Pakistan has already a foreign minister who can coordinate with GB Assembly instead of minister for GB and Kashmir affairs. Thus, all affairs should be resolved through proper channel… mean through GB assembly.

    • Represent the GB to get constitutional right in national assembly.
    • Ensure service delivery to public through in placing an effective mechanism and systems of mentoring and monitoring of Govt. institutions.
    • Often we have heard about the embezzlement of funds and taking grants in lieu of various Govt senior positions or political leadership would be considered unlawful for you as well as for your team members.
    • You would try your level best to make GB corruption free zone through your various interventions with the collaboration of GB administration and leadership.
    • It is also hoped you would ensure to embark the basic principles of good governance those are transparency, accountability, fairness, justice, equity, participation, responsiveness, effectiveness & efficiency and rule of law.
    • You would also play your role to reduce the unnecessary expenses on protocols of VIPS. The prime objectives of VIPs should be service delivery.
    • Your frequent visits as well as constant follow up mechanism with top leadership and management would also lead to establish GB welfare a reform model province.
    • This will be our earnest desire to develop a strategic plan to address the main issues of Gb as border issues, dam issues, constitutional right issues and proper allocation of resources as well.
    • We would also expect that every leader and officer should have his TOR or KRA( Key result Areas) or job description to assume his her duty affectively and efficiently. This will make us more accountable if our inner self is unconscious.
    • We also expect that you would grant us budget more than that which is taken from Gb in form of revenue and taxes.

    The ultimate objective of these suggestions is to see our GB a prosperous and model province.
