SRSP distributes relief items among flood affected people in Chitral

Chitral August 4: Officials of Sarhad Rural Support Program (SRSP) distributed food and non-food relief items among flood victims in Reshun village, where almost 52 houses, three bridges and a Masjid (mosque) have been damaged during the last three days.

Women folk were seen carrying contaminated water from glacial streams for consumption and cooking during the last two days. However, today a vehicles of the TMA Mastuj’s Fire Brigade was seen distributing water among the local people.

SRSP on the direction of its chief executive officer Shahzada Masoodul Mulk distributed food and non food item including flour, Ghee, cooking oil, sugar, rice, salt, pulses, dry milk, tea, washing soap, kitchen pots, tent etc among 32 affected families whose houses were totally damaged in flood.

A number of affected people told this scribe that they facing great problems and suffering a lot because of damaging their houses, irrigation channel and water supply schemes. As well as the main bridge connecting Chitral to sub division Mastuj and Gilgit also totally damaged and people crossing a temporarily wooden bridge. A large number of women and children were seen who standing on main road holding water bottles waiting for fire brigade who provide them water.

A local woman Miss Naila said that after flash flood people of the area particularly and women folk specially facing great problems they carrying drinking water in pitches on their head from far flung streams which is totally contaminated water but they are compelled to drink this water. They appeal to federal and provincial government for restoring water supply schemes and communication network immediately.

They demanded for restoring of irrigation channel so as to save their standing crops from drying. Local peole removing debris, mud, stone and flood material from their houses on self help basis. It is worth to mention here that different from routine flood the present flood had carried mud stone and debris instead of water which is most difficult to be remove on self help basis without government support.
