Hunza, January 13: Boys and young men in the Altit Village of Central Hunza have found an innovative way of keeping warm during the harsh winters. They are playing a new sports, a localized version of “Ice Hockey”, of course without using the gears normally associated with the game.
The “Ice Hockey” in Hunza is not being played on top an artificial ice rink, though. Instead, the frozen surface of a small lake, Altit Pharri, has been turned into the ice-hockey field. The risks of playing on a a frozen lake notwithstanding, the enthusiasm and energy of the players is a treat for the eyes.
Alhanul Qudrat, a resident of Altit, has captured some photographs of young boys playing the Hunza version of “Ice Hockey”.
The hockey on ice is an international sport and very popular in Canada, and can be developed on Hunza level and prepare a team to play in Canada..
