Gilgit, August 7: The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan will organize the Silk Route Festival 2014, starting 10th of September. This was decided at a meeting of the festival’s steering committee chaired by the region’s Chief Secretary.
It was also decided that the private sector will be mobilized for generating resources for the festival, which aims to be a flagship cultural and tourism event of the picturesque region. The festival is expected to attract tourists from across the country, and abroad, to boost the region’s economy, while also portraying a positive image of Pakistan at the global level.
The Chief Secretary instructed the relevant departments to make security arrangements for the mega event.
Last year the Silk Route Festival was attended by more than a dozen ambassadors and ambassadorial staff from dozens of countries. Many cultural organizations have complained of not receiving funds in lieu of the money spent on arranging the festival last year.
