Gilgit, October 27: Speaker GBLA, Wazir Baig inaugurated the building of the Moorkhun Higher Secondary School two days back in the presence of MLA Mutabiat Shah and Majeed Khan, Director (Academic) of the GIlgit-Baltistan Education Department.
A large number of local residents had gathered to witness the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking at the occasion, the community representatives said that the inauguration of the Higher Secondary School is a landmark in the region’s history. They thanked the government for materializing the project. They demanded the finalization of the project’s PC-4, to ensure appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff. They also demanded that the school should be authorized to have its own DDO, to ensure effective utilization of resources. They also demanded allocation of government funds for the project, as so far it has been run without any support from the government. They also demanded starting of courses for grade 6 upto grade 12 students. This, they said, will save the parents large sums of money. The community representatives also demanded transport facilities for the higher secondary school.
Speaking earlier, Wazir Baig, who is the region’s elected representative, said that the government has taken a number of measures to improve the quality of education in the region. He mentioned upgradation of schools in Chipursan Valley and construction of new primary schools. He urged the students to take benefit of the educational facilities available in the region and prepare for the world job market.
The locals warmly welcomed the guests and appreciated their efforts for making the project a success.
