Female cyclists from Gilgit-Baltistan take part in “Bangladesh Discovery Ride”

Islamabad: Laila Kiran and Anila Shaheen, students of Asian University for Women, Bangladesh, are the first female cyclists from Gilgit Baltistan to complete 200 kilometers ride during a recently held event in Bangladesh. The two, along with others, traveled from Chittagong city to Cox’s Bazaar during the “Bangladesh Discovery Ride 2014”.
Around 84 participants from 16 countries, including Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, USA, and Vietnam participated in the event organized by Cogway, Japan. Laila and Anila, hailing from Gilgit-Baltistan, represented Pakistan during the event.
Women and girls from Gilgit-Baltistan are setting new standards and records by participating in different sports. Six girls from Gilgit-Baltistan are part of the national soccer team of Pakistan, while Samin Baig is a global icon of mountaineering.
Diana Baig is probably the only girl in Pakistan who has played in the national women’s cricket team, as well as the national women’s soccer team.
