Chilas, March 8: At least 25 Afghan nationals ‘illegally’ living in Diamer have been detained by the district police and expelled to refugee camps elsewhere in the country.

According to details shared by a representative of the district police, the detentions and expulsions are part of a crackdown against Afghan nationals illegally living in the country. The police representative said that 25 people have been expelled in the first phase of the crackdown.

The district officials said that no Afghan national will be allowed entry in Gilgit-Baltistan without passport and visa.

Expulsion of the Afghan nationals has resulted in closure of many Kabuli Pulao restaurants in Chilas city. The police have reportedly sealed the businesses and confiscated the utensils.
