Conference held to discuss measures for prevention of motor bike accidents in Hunza
Hunza: (PR) Karakoram Area Development Organization (KADO) in collaboration with District Administration Hunza organized a conference on “Prevention of Motor Bike Accidents in District Hunza”. The local administration heads including Deputy Commissioner (DC), Assistant Commissioner (AC), Superintendent of Police (SP), Chairman KADO and a large number of civil society representatives participated in the conference. The conference aimed to create awareness and define measurable mechanism to decrease the accidents and road safety in the jurisdiction of Hunza district.
Chairman KADO formally welcome the guests and participants. In light of the high rate of accidents particularly motor bike accidents on KKH in Hunza district, the chairman has emphases to have coordination among Civil Society organizations and Public Administration to create awareness and mechanism regarding traffic rules and regulation to save precious lives.
Assistant Commissioner (AC) Hunza has urged the people to abide by the traffic rules and regulation to avoid the loss of precious lives. He further pointed that most of the accidents occurred due to carelessness, not using Helmets and other safety nets. He said that the concern departments will take action against who do not follow the necessary rules and directions received from the local administration.
Superintendent Police (SP) Hunza praised the organizers of the conference on organizing this informative and most appealing session. He said that police department will ensure measurable steps to minimize the rapid accidents. Police department has already defined a road map in this regard and expecting support and cooperation from the civil society and community for its effective implementation. He further cautioned that those who will violate the rules will be dealt according to law.
The Chief Guest of the conference Deputy Commissioner Hunza emphasized on ensuring effective implementation of the rules and regulation to minimize the reasons of rapid accidents. He said that most of the accidents occurred due to negligence and carelessness. It is the responsibility of each and everyone to abide by the traffic rules. Any single department cannot be claimed for minimizing the accidents unless there is cooperation of civil society. The foremost responsibility rest on the parents and community leaders to educate their children and youth regarding the civic sense. He said that the Local Administration has imposed section 144 on bike riding and other transportation for two months in the jurisdiction of Hunza district. DC Hunza requested all notables, parents and stakeholders to show their responsibility in minimizing of the fatal accidents in the region.
Apart from the guests some notables from the community also expressed their deep concerns regarding this emerging and deadly issue. The speakers urged the local administration to take measurable steps in overcoming the burning consequences and reasons behind this issue.
The conference was concluded with the mutual decisions that; to ensure proper driving license mechanism, prohibit under age driving, ensure vehicle fitness, prohibit without Helmet driving, control over drug and alcohol usage and oversee the overloaded and over speed driving. The local administration together with the police department will soon start a crackdown action against the violator.
