Officer of Gilgit-Baltisan’s Forest Dept. arrested by NAB while trying to flee country

Gilgit: Muhammad Ismail Zafar, Ex-Conservator of Gilgit Circle, Forest Department, has been arrested from Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore, by NAB Authorities while he was trying to flee to UAE.

A press release issued by NAB said that the officer absconded during the investigation and was wanted by NAB GB.

It is alleged that Mr. Muhammad Ismail Zafar allowed illegal cutting in Makhley Forest (C-46) and also allowed transportation of timbers in violation of timber disposal policy 2013.

The sheer violation of timber disposal policy resulted loss of Rs. 73.93 million to National Ex-chequer.

The accused will soon be transported to Gilgit where he will be presented before the Accountability Court GB Gilgit for remand.
