4th Faculty Council Meeting Convened at University of Baltistan, Skardu
SKARDU: (PR) The 4th Faculty Council meeting was held at University of Baltistan, Skardu ,chaired by the Vice Chancellor. The Registrar UOBS Dr. Irshad Ali, Director Academics Dr. Zakir Hussain, Controller Examinations Dr. Ghulam Raza, all HODs and faculty members participated in the meeting.
The Vice Chancellor gave feedbacks and shared his knowledge with the council particularly the Dy. QEC about the effective role and showed doors to the world of Quality Enhancement talking about the top universities of the country.
Ghulam Raza (HOD Biological Science and Controller Examinations) briefed the council about his expertise in the field of Ecology and Bio-dynamics. He had 20 above publications and attended conferences seminars. He has also achieved HEC’s Grants for many projects. He extended his brief and said that Blatistan region has excellence in biodiversity (flora, fauna and research laboratory in nature). He added that competent students join this university as they all used to be aspirants of medical science. He said that the currently the department offers BS in Botany and Zoology. He also emphasized to initiate MS programs in Biological Science. Dr. Ghulam Raza presented the performance and role the department of Biological Science and briefly demonstrated the profiles of the faculty members including Dr. Muhammad Ali (Phd in Zoology) Dr. Shafqat (Phd) has number of publications having excellent impact factor, Dr. Mehdi Hasan (Phd in Organic Chemistry from Dalian University, China). He has got published above 15 publications. Dr. Mahdi Hasan sharing his knowledge in the field imperatively talked about the establishment of department of Chemistry as there are number of students waiting for admission at University of Baltistan, Skardu.
The VC remarked and acknowledged the importance of the department of Chemistry and is positive to establish it in near future. He further commented on a subject named ‘Mountain Area Studies and suggested to add two domains i.e. (Archeology and Culture). He said that we can call national heroes of culture and regional image to talk on certain subjects.
Mr. Najaf Ali Lecturer department of Educational Development shared his knowledge on vision and mission and strategic planning of the University. He expressed his willingness to conduct training session on developing all departmental vision, mission and strategic planning. The worthy VC acknowledged it and directed Mr. Najaf Ali to conduct the session in the coming week.
Abdul Rehman Lecturer department of Languages and Cultural Studies briefed the council about the crucial importance of establishment of Media Cell for the Development and Capacity Building of the Faculty and Students. He said that the role of university in career development and capacity building of the students and faculty cannot not be ignored as university provides diverse environment. He further said that with help of the Media Cell the all cultural, academic and professional data can be saved for future. For this purpose, he requested the council to establish a well equipped media auditorium at the university. He said that before the proper functioning of the Media Cell terms and conditions may also be defined for necessary needs and action. He further said that with help of the said program faculty members and scholars can be called for talks, debates and research based discussion and the same can be uploaded on university’s e-portal or channels for future records.
The VC acknowledged and recommended to work on the suggested program of Media Cell at University of Baltistan, Skardu.
Irsahd Ali Registrar introduced the roles of the department of Computer Science and directed Mr. Javed (Assistant Registrar UOBS) to further brief the Faculty Council about the performance of the department. Mr. Javed briefly explained the salient features of the projects being used by the university.
The VC applauded and appreciated the excellent efforts made by Dr. Irshad Ali, and Mr. Javed Hussain.
Towards the end of the meeting the appointment of Mr. Wasimullah Jan Malik (HOD Department of Business Management) as Director Business Incubation Center UOBS, Miss Hasin Bano, Lecturer Department of Computer Science and Deputy Director QEC as Director QEC UOBS, and Mr. Javed Hussain Junior Programmer/Admin Officer as Assistant Registrar UOBS, were announced by the Vice Chancellor.
