High altitude Marathon concluded at Khunerab, Pakistani athletes shine


HUNZA: Pakistani athletes bagged all top positions in the High Altitude Khunjerab Marathon.

154 athletes, including 39 foreign athletes from 17 countries, competed in three categories during the event.

Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman inaugurated the event. President Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan Air Marshal Aasim Zaheer, Force Commander Gilgit-Baltistan Maj Gen Ehsan Mahmood Khan and other officials attended the ceremony.

In the 50km race, Pakistan Army’s Muhammad Siyar secured first position while Aslam Khan from Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts bagged second, and Muhammad Iqbal grabbed the third position.

Army athletes, Umair Haider, Muhammad Faheem and Sohail Tanveer,  bagged the top three positions in the 42km race.

In the 21km race, Aslam Baig came first, while Abdul Muheet and Musawar ur Rehman bagged the second and third positions.

In the 21km woman’s race, Bibi Nabat secured first, and Aisha Jabeen grabbed second position.

PAF joined hands with the Winter Sports Federation of Pakistan, travel company Z Adventures and Serena Hotels for the event.
