Raabta Committee gives 5 days ultimatum to government for acceptance of demands

PT Report

Gilgit, March 12: Leaders of the coordination committee of the affectees of Gojal have asked the government to accept the charter of demand within the next five days. Failing this would mean ignoring the people of Gojal and we would start a movement for our rights, said a speaker while addressing a press conference here in Gilgit city.

“The government shall declare Gojal as calamity hit and declare a package to support the collapsing economy”, a speaker said. “Despite of our peaceful protests and reminders, the government has constantly ignored our demands. We will be forced to launch a civil disobedience movement if the charter of demand is not accepted and implemented in the given date”, the speakers said.

  1. What a shame. Its been more than two months since the natural disaster and the current elected representatives from Hunza have been unable to declare the area as “Calamity Hit”; despite the PPP being in power. Had, this been the time of Ghazanfar Ali Khan, PT would have endless criticism. Hmmm!

  2. Who is Mr. Wazir Baig (Speaker GBLA) and Mr. Mutabiat Shah (Technocrat GBLA) demanding of to declare Gojal as calamity hit? they ARE the people in power. Mr. Syed Mehdi Shah is the Chief Minister of GB. Aren’t all these titles, and powers enough to do the needful?

  3. if government ignore, it is very important to be part of the agtation against the governmen do being a nation.

  4. This is called spirit..Its our fundamental right to fight against
such ignoring attitude of our government.I think five days are more than enough. This attitude of government proves that
the sayings of our leaders were just for the sack of sayings.
    Lets hope for the best.

  5. Gilgit-Baltistan will have to adopt VAT law ???
ISLAMABAD (March 13 2010): The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and the autonomous Assembly of Gilgit-Baltistan would also have to adopt the proposed Federal Value Added Tax (VAT) Act 2010 to make the business units/retailers in these regions operate under the VAT regime from next fiscal year. The (FBR) Chairman, Sohail Ahmed,
In view of these circumstances the government struggle to impose taxes they completely ignore the people of GB especially the people of Hunza. The victims of Attabad are still in tents there is no any care from government side. The only way we have left is that we have to start civil disobedience movement. I urge to all leadership of GB to raise this issue in assembly and struggle to resolve this matter promptly.

  6. I am very much afraid reading, listening and talking the views of the people of extreme north of Pakistan. At this point of difficult situation, some of us talking to define boundaries between Gojal and Hunza, ……..[parts of comment deleted]………. some of our leaders while talking to media saying that government help is more than enough, some of us demanding to declare Gojal as calamity hit area, and so on… Diversion in our thinking and attitude replace our genuine demand and a mass has been created in the media. The basic demand of the people of Hunza is the earliest removal of debris from the blockade so the dangers of the water to civilization upstream and down stream should be avoided and mitigated. It should be the base line while negotiating with the government and other agencies. Escalating the concerns in the media every person should only demand the release of water from the lake. We all people know up to one year without any help from outside there is hardly a possibility of danger to the lives of the people of Hunza particularly upper Hunza. In the difficult day people share with each other what they own. If the dam is not breached within one month then there is possibility of losing our lives and property. At that point in time we will lose every thing from lives to soul.
