Shishkat, February 15: The Frontier Works Organization has again closed spillway of the dammed Hunza River to carry out excavation work on the barrier, near Attabad.

According to a local activist the water level has risen by around 2.6 ft during the last four (4) days.

The water level is likely to rise by 12 ft during the next six days, when the spillway will be opened again to drain the stored water.

In the meanwhile, boats are operating in the dammed river, ferrying goods and merchandize to and from Gojal Valley. The boat service comes to a halt occasionally due to strong winds.

The local people have demanded concrete and technically sound action instead of cosmetic ‘look-buys’ tactics, an accusation they level against the responsible organization.
