Jashn-e-Nauroz celebrated across GB
PT Report
Aliabad/Gilgit/Gahkuch – Jashn-e-Nauroz was celebrated with relative simplicity across Gilgit – Baltistan. Men and women gathered in different villages and towns to celebrate the festival. Men and boys were seen trying their luck in breaking painted eggs. Many girls were busy enjoying on swings attached to branches of trees in different parts of the region.
Decorated newborns and infants went rolled over piles of dry fruits and sweets, as part of the tradition of Dada. The pile of dry-fruit and sweets is then distributed among friends, relatives and other people, as a sign of good luck and blessings.
This year the colour of Nauroz was relatively dull because of the loss of life in Kohistan Carnage. However, in some areas different traditional sports were held to beat the cold and celebrate the arrival of spring.
