Temperature drops below freezing point in most parts of Gilgit – Baltistan

Temperature drop has made a large segment of the population vulnerable to cold, while thousands remain cut-off due to blockade of roads

PT Report

Gilgit, January 2: Winter season is at its peak across the Gilgit – Baltistan region. Water supply lines have frozen. Scarcity of firewood and higher cost of natural gas has left thousands of impoverished people at the mercy of nature’s fury.

According to PakMet,  lowest temperatures across the country were recorded at Skardu (-13), Hunza (-09), Gilgit (-07) and Astore (-06 degree celcius).

Complaints of respiratory diseases are increasing due to severe cold.

The people of GB should consider the fuel efficient stoves-FES rather then using the traditional stoves which has high consumption rate of fuelwood and due to smoke it has health hazards as well.
Fuel efficient stove save the family a considerable amount of money on firewood and obviously it will reduce the impact on the forest of Gilgit Baltistan.
I remember BACIP, in Gilgit had launced fuel efficient stoves whic has low consumption of firewood.
