Avalanche destroys crops, fruit trees in Nagar village

Hunza,  April 15: An avalanche hitting a settlement in Nagar on Wednesday destroyed standing crops and hundreds of fruit and forest trees.

The avalanche hit Akuchar settlement in Nagar valley damaging crops, cattle sheds and houses, local police said. Heavy rainfall along with avalanche created panic among the villagers. The people living in avalanche prone areas have been shifted to safer places in order to avoid human causalities.

The villagers said that the local administration has not yet visited the village to assess the situation. They demanded the Northern Areas Administration to visit the village and compensate the people for the losses.
