“Something is better than nothing”, Altaf Hussain
by Muiz Gojali
Karachi, September 08: Chief of the Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Altaf Hussain, said that something is better than nothing, while responding to a question about his view of the package for Gilgit – Baltistan. He was addressing journalists at the nine zero markaz, here in Karachi.
A journalist asked Altaf Hussain that despite of the weaknesses in the package that doesn’t empower the locals of Gilgit – Baltistan in a real sense, how could MQM hail the package as historic. To this Altaf Hussain said that the package is a positive step forward and the local people of Gilgit – Baltistan need to build more on the initiative and continuously struggle for autonomy.
The journalists had gathered at Nine Zero to attend an Iftar dinner organized by the party. Parliamentary leader of MQM, Haider Abbas, said while talking to the journalists that PML (N) was trying to join Gilgit – Baltistan with Kashmir and they were also not in favor of appointing a local governor in the region. He claimed that other parties, including MQM, are pressing for appointing a local governor. He also termed the decision to rename the “Northern Areas” as Gilgit – Baltistan a very important step.
