PPP divided in Gojal valley ahead of GBLA elections

by Noor

Gulmit, October 24: Activists and local leaders of Pakistan Peoples Party had a highly charged meeting at a local hotel. The meeting had been convened to ask two contestants of the GBLA election to withdraw their candidature and pave way for Wazir Baig, PPP ticket holder.

Abbas Khan, feeling betrayed by the party, refused to step down. According to some sources he has decided to contest the election as an independent candidate. Rozdar Ullah, on the other hand, has conditioned his stepping down from the contest to fulfillment of some regional demands. A final decision in this regard would be made within the coming two days. Fozia Wahab and other central leaders of PPP are expected to visit Gojal valley and other parts of Gilgit – Baltisan ahead of the 12 November elections.

Highly charged speeches, including allegations of misappropriation in the BISP forms were leveled against local leaders of the party.

Campaign office of PPP was also opened to facilitate campaigning for the party ticket holder.

The meeting was attended by over one hundred activists and leaders of the party’s local setup, including Ghulam Muhamamd, Hajat Muhamamd, Ghadeer Shah, Abbas Khan and Arab Khan.

Observers and analysts reported a visible divide between the party’s stand on various issues facing Gojal and expectations of the local people.

  1. I request all the PPP leaders and workers to follow the party line if we want to win the upcoming election , and do the best for cause of BHUTTOISM and shaheed muhtarma BENAZIR .i also request to mr abbas to step down i thing the party ticket is not the right of abbas uncle bcoz he spent his life out of the region and he is claming for party ticket this is unfair

  2. what is BHUTTOISM?whatever was left has died with benazir.the party is in such dire straits in the region that it could not find a better candidate then Wazir Baig who is old and tested.the younger generation need a candidate who they can relate with. not a candidate that is from another generation. only way ppp can win these elections is if they rig them.otherwise they will be rejected by our educated society.

  3. it was to happan the ppp divided in gojal, the party divide responseblity two persons wazir baig and hajat muhammed, they both person not connect and confidance to party members different issue last many years,in last cuple of year their activaties were out of party maniofasto ,they were deeply involved some diputed issues in gojal some ill-wishers of ppp were using these so-called leaders for their personal intrests. this is the time to reform peoples party in gojal the senior headship of ppp in gilgit baltistan should aprise these leaders, otherwise the party will down to weakest party in coming years .

    1. my dear brother u did not understand what i want to say. that is just my openion i m free to vote any one but my first choice will be that person who belongs to gojal and having the skills to solve our issues. i am in a favour of uncle zafar iqbal because he has the ability to lead us but unfortunitly he was not given the ticket. so there is no other choice then MQM because they have the best candidate and there is a hope from MQM that they will do for us thats why i support them

  7. The event was wrongly reported for some self interests. Abbas Khan is intact with the party and was present in the Gulmit rally on Monday 26.

  8. voting for the ppp is wasting your vote.even while being in power they have not been able to do anythiing for the people but give them more miseries.all they are concerned about is the NRO.they don’t care about gilgit baltistan..there party co chairman mr.zardari has stepped out of the president house only when he has to go abroad.what would they know about the problems we face.

  9. NOW EXTENTION WORK ON KKH IS STOPED DUE TO ZARDARI % AGE……….. WE CAN NOT PROGRESS IF THE LEADER PAKISTAN PRESIDENT IS NOT ALLOWING THE EXTENTION OF KKH INFACT HE GAVE APPROVAL ONLY FOR MAINTAINANCE OF KKH.WHICH IS A SHAME FOR ALL GB. 10. Change is good only if change is for good … Unfortunately we are still searching for good leaders… I think instead of indulging ourselves in the party politics we should join hands together for the regional needs and rights. We should fight for our common interest. We need an educated leader, regardless of his affiliation with any party who can work for the political rights of upper Hunza. Do we have any leader???

Nawaz sharif is expected to visit Gilgit -Hunza before elections and most probably he would announce for the separate seat of Gojal-Hunza. If than we will support the candidate of PML-N,,, if not than MQM ….

  11. Mr Sakhi… How Nawaz Sharif Can announce the seprate seat in this Government?. Surely, you will vote for Sheryar due to your past afiliation. Kamil Jan also meets your defination of good leader.

    1. Mr. Aziz as i clearly stated above that we will only vote on our common regional interest regardless of our affiliation with any party. And a huge number of youth of Gojal in Gilgit are agreed on this point that vote for Gojali …

  12. @ Arshad Sakhi if a candidate more educated, strong and according to your criteria will contest in Hunza election, you will never support him/her unless he/she belongs to RAJA family, this is the harsh fact.and that will be real change in Gojal if you will cast your vote independently without any family interference.i hope it didn’t hurt you. cheers

  13. Dear Editor Pamir Times
I would request to establish Election Cell 2009 to closely monitor the updates/breakings etc

Secondly, Please upload the following data ASAP,
    * List of Candidates along with symbols/party affiliation/constituency
*Total list of voters including male/female
*Party position and electoral profile of top three candidates
    * Election manifesto/programme and a comparative analysis of election programmes of various parties

I appreciated the updates of Pamir Times but it should be representative online edition which needs to accommodate the news item from whole of Gilgit-Baltistan
