Porters rates increase by 7 % in all GB districts

A meeting of stakeholders of adventure tourism was held on February 4, 2010 in Gilgit to discuss revising of the wage rates charged by porters in Gilgit – Baltistan.  The meeting was chaired by Imran Sikandar Baloch the Secretary Tourism Gilgit Baltistan. In this meeting it was decided that the wages of porters will be increased throughout Gilgit-Baltistan by 7% for the year 2010. The increase will be applied to all segments of porter allowances including; kit, high pass crossing, daily wages, empty return, ration & rest allowances etc. An official notification is expected within a few days.

In the meeting the honorable secretary tourism assured to settle long standing issue of porter stages before coming season. It was also decided to revise porter wages for year 2011 before July 2010.

Last year porters rates per stage were 380 rupee ( wages – 200 rupee + 100 rupee empty return + 80 rupee ration money = total 380 rupee) in addition they will be provided with meat or 150 rupee along with one time kit allowance of rupees 400.

I am really happy to know about that the secretary of tourism increase the porters rates ,but i would like to know what is there plan and what they are doing for the development of tourism in GB .I think first they make some plan for marketing to attract they tourist then increase their rate.Make some special plan for GB and meet with the stockholder i mean the local people.Work with plan please. This Industry is our main source of income . Do not work like PTDC Pakistan.

  2. Incompetence is the main reason of the country’s downfall. Where bribery, napotism, regionalism and secterianism are set to be the parameters of governance, devils govern over there.

    Nothing can be expected out of the hell but ‘lava’.
