Chinese relief goods for Gilgit – Baltistan to reach within 5 days

Sost, August 25: The Chinese government is sending relief goods comprising mainly of food items and fuel for the flood affected Gilgit – Baltistan region.
According to government sources 50,000 liters of petrol and an equal volume of diesel has been sent by the Chinese government to overcome fuel shortage in the region. Around 20 containers (100 truck loads) of food relief is also reportedly part of the relief convey heading towards Sost from Urumqi, Xinjiang.
The government of Pakistan has requested Beijing to provide maximum support to affectees of the Hunza Lake and recent rain floods in the Gilgit – Baltistan. More relief convoys would reach Sost during the coming weeks, it has been learnt.
The relief is likely to alleviate sufferings in the landlocked Gilgit – Baltistan where thousands of kilometers of roads have been washed away due to floods and the Karakuram Highway is blocked at several locations.
