Either fifth province of Pakistan, or AJK like set up, or AJK-GB One Unit

GB Lawyers emerge confused

PT Report

Gilgit, October 13: The lawyers of Gilgit – Baltistan convened at Gilgit to discus their issues, as well as discuss the future status of Gilgit – Baltistan. GB Law Minister Wazir Shakeel was chief guest at the occasion.

A resolution passed towards the end of the convention demanded demanded that names of the Supreme Appllate Court and the Chief Court shall be renamed as Supreme Court and High Court.

The lawyers also demanded in the resolution that Gilgit – Baltistan shall be made a part of Pakistan, through constitutional amendments. However, this wasn’t the only option ‘demanded’. Other demands about the future of GB included a governance set-up on the lines of Azad Jammu Kashmir. Still another option presented in the resolution demanded annexation of GB and AJK into “one-unit”.

That the lawyers failed to present a single demand vis-a-vis the future of Gilgit – Baltistan speaks volumes about the confusion and disharmony prevalent in the entire region.

Wazir Shakeel in his speech said that the presidential order is not a divine scripture and it can be changed according to wishes of the people.

A large number of lawyers from all seven districts of GB participated in the convention. Senior lawyers and presidents of district bar associations made speeches during the convention.
