[Shabana Akhtar Death Case] Brother accuses DHQ hospital administration of distorting facts to save culprits

Gilgit, June 10: Iftikhar Hussain, brother of a nurse found dead three weeks back in her hostel room, has alleged that administration of the District Head Quarter Hospital Giligit has distorted facts of the case to save the culprits.

“My sister has been murdered but the hospital management is trying to portray it as a case of suicide”, Shabana Akhtar’s brother has, reportedly, told Daily Badd-e-Shimal, Gilgit – Baltistan’s prominent newspaper.

“We demand reinvestigation of the case from the very beginning”, Iftikhar Hussain has been reported as saying. He has also refused to accept results of the post-mortem report compiled by the hospital administration.

Iftikhar Hussain has, reportedly, also accused the police officials of taking the case half-heartedly.

He has further demanded that the case should be re-investigated and the hospital management should also be included in the investigation.

The 22 year nurse, Shabana Akhtar, was found hanging from the ceiling of her hostel room, located within the DHQ hospital’s premises. The police has arrested a number of people and later released some, after revelations from the deceased’s cell phone showed that she may have been harassed by her colleagues.

Later investigation revealed that a colleague of Shabana Akhtar had manipulated her cell phone to send false messages, with the view of misguiding police investigation.
