Gilani nominates Edhi for Nobel Peace Prize

ISLAMABAD, Nov 28 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday proposed the name of Abdul Sattar Edhi, head of Edhi Foundation for international Nobel Peace Prize. He was talking to Dr Nafisa Sadiq, Special Envoy of UN Secretary General on HIV/AIDS for Asia who called on him at the PM’s House here.

Dr Nafisa appreciated the Prime Minister’s proposal and promised to mobilize support for this at all levels.

Prime Minister Gilani said he was personally monitoring the polio eradication campaign in the country and in this regard Governor Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa, all chief ministers and Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir were required to submit progress report on

The Prime Minister said the increase in polio cases in some of the areas of the country was due to the floods and thousands of cross border movements at the Pak-Afghan border.

The Prime Minister said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) manifesto gave much emphasis on the social sector which included education for all and health facilities besides family planning and mother and child care services.

Dr Nafisa Sadiq said Pakistan had low prevalence of AIDS, however, stressed to raise awareness about it. She appealed to the Prime Minister to give prominent media coverage to the AIDS Day being observed on December 1 across the globe.
