16th death anniversary of Advocate Johar Ali observed in Gilgit

Gilgit, February 12: The 16th death anniversary of GB’s renowned political leader, Advocate Johar Ali, was observed today in Gilgit. Speakers paid glowing tributes to one of the earliest rights activists of GB, who along with his comrades had established the region’s foremost political party, “Gilgit Jamhoori Mahaz”, or the Gilgit Democratic Front.
Advocate Johar Ali was one of the prominent leaders who mobilized the masses of Gilgit against CFR laws during the seventies.
He was also a founding leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party in Gilgit – Baltistan.
Speaking at a ceremony organized in memory of Quaid-e-Gilgit, a title used for the late leader, Advocate Ehsan Ali, President of the High Court Bar Association, said that Advocate Johar Ali was a political martyr, because the authorities tortured him to death by curbing his freedom of thought and expressions. He said that Advocate Johar was a legal expert at par who could have made millions by practising law but he chose to lead the region’s initial struggle for political rights.
Other speakers, including leader of MQM, Safdar Ali, Aslam Inquillabi and Advocate Behram also paid rich tributes to Advocate Johar Ali.
The speakers demanded of GB government to observe the anniversary of Advocate Johar at official level.
