PT Report
Gilgit, March 8: Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, addressed a secretive meeting of the Ulema and political leaders of the Shia community, held this morning. Malik told participants of the meeting that due to inclement weather he could not reach Gilgit. He will visit the city tomorrow. He has promised that all demands made by the Anjuman will be accepted.
Consequently, the Anjuman-e-Imamia extended the deadline set for resumption of massive protests by one day.
A “Joint Supreme Council” was also formed, headed by Agha Rahat of Gilgit and Sheikh Hasan Jafri of Skardu.
The Anjuman-e-Imamia has threatened that if the perpetrators of Kohistan Carnage are not arrested they will start a region-wide protest against the government.
Rehman Malik is also expected to meet the Ulema of Ahl-e-Sunnat and a delegation of Diamer Valley, as part of the efforts to build confidence in the region and restore peace.
