Two girls, mother killed over family video

GILGIT: A family video showing two teenage girls enjoying rain in their house led to their murder in Chilas on Sunday night. Their mother was also gunned down allegedly by her stepson and his four friends.

Five masked men barged into the house of retired police officer Rehmat Nabi and started firing, killing his wife and daughters, aged 15 and 16.

According to police, the crime was motivated by a video clip circulated on mobile phones and showing the girls overjoyed by rain in the lawn of their bungalow.

The video, recorded six months ago, was circulated in the area four months later probably after a relative sent it to his friends.

Police believed that the girls’ stepbrother Khutore took it as an “assault on the honour of his family” and tried to “restore the family’s honour” by killing the girls.

Khutore escaped when police tried to get in touch with him for investigation. But, his four friends were arrested and, according to a senior police official, they have confessed to the crime. A case has been registered against the five.

  1. A very sad and brutal act..Cannot imagine a step brother do such act.Now he will be called Hero by his friends, and he regain his family honour by killing his family members..Ignornat…..we need to educate of our region people espcialy the people of Daimer and kohistan, here literacy rate is too less as compare to other areas of GB.

  2. I think it’s not a literacy issue because it improves quality of life and this act is below humanity. There are other regions as well in GB where literacy rate is below average but they respect woman. These issues happens because of false interpretation of religion. I have heard many Khutba’s in which Ulma disgrace woman, so Ulma can overcome these social issues.

  3. It will take centuries for them to change and come out of this ignorance…They are still in the dark ages and thats why these acts take place..Shame to them but it is never easy for the people of this area until any miracle happens to bring them out out
    this trauma…
