Chitral, November 11: Gul Nawaz Khaki, a renowned political activist, linguist, poet singer and writer of Khawar language, breathed his last today at the age of 77 years, after a couple of weeks’ ailment.

He was the Chief Patron and president of Anjuman-e-Taraqi Khowar and worked as sub editor for Jamhori Islam, Peshawar. He was also a writer and poet, having written several books in Khowar language, including Mir-e-Karwan, on the life of Qauide Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah), Thoron, a collection of local poetry, Khush Watan, Taraqi w no Shehir, Seeratun Nabi, Soornaik, Khowar dictionary, Beeraish and Laal Jafar Yaad. He had also complied a collection of 1600 Ahadis, sayings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).

He joined PPP in 1967 and remained loyal to the party without getting any personal benefit. He wrote famous poem for conservation of wild life which is very popular among the local people.

His funeral prayer was attended by former provincial minister Saleem Khan, District Nazim Maghfirat Shah, civil officers, politicians and hundred of people belonging to all walk of life. He was laid to rest at his ancestral grave yard of Singor in presence of thousands of tearful eyes.
